A lot of people still continue with their everyday lives when they are sick. aLot of people still go into work or still go to school even know they don’t feel good and can potentially be contagious. I don’t like when people come to work or go to school sick mostly because whenever I’m around a sick person I usually catch something. Even though I don’t like it I do understand why people do it and I usually do it myself. Sometimes there just isn’t an option. In most college classes you aren’t allowed to miss more than a few days or your grade will drop. A lot of the time that’s my reason for going to school when I’m sick, my grade can’t afford it. I also go to work sick which I know is really bad. At my job if you call in sick you need to find a cover, which none ever wants to do and sometimes they even make you get a doctor’s note. Sometimes when I’m really sick I don’t even want to go to the doctor I just want to rest or if I do want to go there aren’t any appointments available. Lot of people go to work because they can’t afford to lose money, they don’t have insurance to get a note, or they can’t find someone to cover for them. The situation sucks whatever way that you look at it. I can’t really say if going out when your sick if fair or not for people that can potentially catch it.
There are some actions that both the healthy and sick person can do to help try and reduce the chance of transmission. Sick people can use facemarks and get treated for their illness. Healthy people can get flu shots and wash their hands regularly especially during flu season. According to my health book, Core Concepts in Health, “Cold viruses are almost always transmitted by hand to hand contact” (Insel and Roth pg 307).
