Organic food is food that is made without pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, sewage, sludge, genetically modified organisms, or ionizing radiation. The term organic when referring to animal products means that the animal does not take any antibiotics or growth hormones. I watched a video on a family that never ate organic food but decided to eat only organic for two weeks. Before they started that, the whole family had to submit urine tests and the tests concluded that their urine was full of chemicals. By the end of the two weeks almost all of the chemicals was removed from their bodies. Having all of those chemicals on our bodies is bad but there is no proof of what the long term affects of those chemicals being on our bodies will have. A chemical alone is bad enough but by continuing to put different chemicals in our bodies there is no telling how they could mix and react to each other. There may not be a nutritional difference in itself of organic beside but the lack of chemicals is definitely better for you. Some of the cons of organic foods are that they have a shorter shelf life because of the lack of preservatives they put in it and they aren’t entirely chemical free. Some chemicals are allowed within organic farming standard but I believe that a little bit is better than a whole lot in regular food. Over all I think buying organic produce is ideal. Even buying only certain things that are organic is a step in the right direction.
