I’ve really enjoyed taking this class. The overall environment of the classroom was really positive. Everyone in the class is really nice and my professor, Kelly, has honestly been one of my favorite teachers at Palomar. Instead of just lecturing and making the students take notes she made everything a discussion that got everyone involved and I really like learning that way. Everything was fun too, even the subjects I thought would be boring. I learned a lot in this class. Honestly this is the only class I actually went to every week. When I read about
When we were learning about suicide and depression, it really impacted me. Learning about all the signs of suicide and seeing an actual list up on the screen made me realize just how close to the edge I was. After learning more I went to my doctor and started medication. Also learning about nutrition really benefitted me.
I learned about contraceptives in this class also. I’ve known about some of the more popular types of contraceptives like male condoms and the birth control that you put in your arm, but in this class I learned about more types and the difference between hormonal and non hormonal contraceptives. According to our textbook, hormonal methods “alter the biochemistry of the woman body, preventing ovulation and producing changes that make it more difficult for the sperm to reach the egg if ovulation does occur” (Insel and Roth 118).
Overall, I learned to live a healthier life in this class. I really appreciate what a great teacher and I had and how she helped me. This health class wasn’t just learning about health, it was learning about life.
